Situation

Cornerstone Construction, based in Idaho, is one of the Northwest’s leading custom homebuilders. A family owned business, Cornerstone focuses on building homes that are extremely “green” and energy efficient.

When the company began building 36 homes in Coyote Rock, a waterfront gated community in Spokane, Washington, the bar was set high.

Objectives

For Coyote Rock homeowners, as for all its customers, Cornerstone set out to build homes that:
·       Meet the specifications and lifestyle needs of the homeowners
·       Offer a high level of energy efficiency
·       Are less expensive to maintain

Solution

Cornerstone uses precise techniques and carefully selected building products to achieve a high level of energy efficiency and sustainability while also achieving an attractive design. In Coyote Rock, this approach included tightly sealed ductwork, properly installed insulation, high-performance windows — and LP SmartSide Trim & Siding.

LP SmartSide Trim & Siding is made with sustainable, fast-growing trees and is uniquely engineered to be more durable and environmentally responsible than real wood trim and siding, yet just as beautiful and easy to work with.

Unlike fiber cement siding, which requires special cutting tools and safety equipment to protect installers against airborne silica, LP SmartSide siding can be cut just like wood. It’s also lighter than fiber cement siding and less likely to crack or break during installation.

Outcome

Jeremy Brennan, owner of Cornerstone Construction, said he’s used LP SmartSide Trim on many occasions and has worked with LP products for years, but building the Coyote Rock homes was his first experience using LP SmartSide Siding. However, it is a product he will definitely be using again.

“Aside from the fact that the product looks nice,” Brennan said, “it’s easier to install than fiber cement products.”

He added that he would recommend LP SmartSide Trim & Siding to other homebuilders, and not just because of its ease of installation and aesthetic value. He pointed out that the 5/50 Year Transferable Limited Warranty — especially the five-year, 100 percent labor and replacement feature — and his great experiences with the product make it easy to recommend.

Of course, what Cornerstone’s customers appreciate most are the overall results:  beautiful homes that require less frequent upkeep, meet multiple standards of energy efficiency and maintain high levels of sustainability.
